9 months or more? Also do they still use the interferon? Trying to find out for a friend, she was on interferon about 20 years and had to be take off due to side affects, no the hep c is back. She has no liver damage but, thinks the doctor said something about 9 months. She is not sure what medication he is talking about. Not sure of her geno type. thanks Chuck!
Interferon is no longer used, although Ribavirin can be used with Harvoni for better effect. The two main players at the moment both come from Gilead Pharma' Harvoni and Epclusa with a 95% and 100% cure rate respectively (both based on Sofosbuvir). Eplclusa is used for the hard to treat genotype 3 and all other genotypes. Harvoni is used for all genotypes except type 3. There are other players in the market with good results but this is the one I'm familiar with. Others may well be cheaper and be covered by insurance where Gilead's offering is insanely expensive without some kind of insurance or program.
Harvoni and Epclusa: 12 weeks treatment is now considered the standard as longer dosing regimes did not have any positive statistical benefit .
