I do not have depression. I have anxiety with some panic attacks.
What is a good medicine to treat general anxiety besides xanax?

The antidepressants I've been on affect my sex life negatively. I recently started taking sertraline for anxiety and my libido has gone way down hill.
There are many, yet, the only way you will know which one will work for you is after a Dr visit/diagnosis etc.
Klonopin is better at least for me. I took xanax which lasts about 4 hours and made me too sleepy, actually ran into another car driving to work one morning. Switched to Klonopin which DOES NOT make me sleepy, knocks the anxiety out and enables me to work a full day. Been on it since 1998 and doing great on it, lasts much longer.
Buspar. And the antidepressants are used for anxiety because they work. You don't have to be depressed.
There are many other medications that work nicely for anxiety. In fact, even though you do not have depression, many of the antidepressants work well for anxiety. Another medication that is neither like Xanax nor like an antidepressant is BuSpar which is specifically for anxiety. A doctor would need to evaluate your symptoms to determine what might work for you. Unfortunately, it is a trial and error sort of deal since one "size" does not fit all.
