Hi Cbbd-
There is no guarantee the meds that help anxiety will not make you drowsy or gain weight. Some people report improvement with herbal meds, exercise, diet change, relaxation techniques, therapy. You may ask your doctor about Buspar, it is non-addictive and usually has low side effects.
If you have not tried any prescriptions meds before you may try to exhaust your options first. Antidepressants come with their own set of issues.
Hope you find what works for you.

We all want the 'magic bullet' that will work the first time without unwanted side effects, the issue is that we are all different and the magic bullet does not exist. The more issues you are trying to manage, the harder it will be to find a single medication to deal with all of them and so a cocktail may be required.
PS. Cognitive behaviour therapy for social anxiety is thought to be around 60% effective in all social anxiety cases. This is a number that many medications cannot compare with.
