I am at the maximum dosage of Celexa. Each increase has lasted about 1 1/2 yrs. not sure if I need something else but hate to change drugs. Celexa was the first drug tried and has worked like a charm with no side effects.
I've been on these medications for more than 15 years and with my own personal experiences and what I've actually taken I would only advise of maybe 3 that carry little to no side effects and are most widely used for depression. Paxil being the first, Elavil or Celexa. Hopefully this was useful and you can also of course discuss the options with your medical provider and too as for Paxil it seems to have or receive a good rating.
My doc thought that Paxil would be a good choice for me. I've tried a 10 mg dose to start & had trouble sticking with it because of fatigue, stomach upset, & jaw clenching. Celexa worked for me at one time but pooped out. As I have gotten older I'm more sensitive to SEs, but for me Celexa had a lot less SEs than Paxil. If Celexa is working I would stick w/it. The AD that at one time that worked the best for me was Zoloft. It's all trial & error & how well you can handle SEs.
