Will a glass of wine reduce the effect of my antibiotic?

Responses (1)

Alcohol use during antibiotic therapy is definitely discouraged. If you can limit yourself to one glass, then I do not personally think your therapy will suffer. The general danger of combining alcohol with drugs is alcohol competes with metabolism in the liver, so in a way you are backing up your liver which is trying to process both the antibiotic and the alcohol, and yes this can reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotic treatment.
