I am sorry to hear you r going through all this pain... I personally don't no a lot about pain meds as some of my family here at dc... but it would help if you add the meds you r already taken so they can give you some advice/there opinion etc... sending prayers your way for some form of relief..your friend...
I'm getting epidurals for sciatica caused by multiple surgeries, spinal taps and myelograms. You should ask your pain management doctor if the injections would help you. I've had 2, and so far I've gotten about 3 weeks of relief from each one. The next step is implantation of a neurostimulator. Talk to your PM doctor about injections.
I, too, suffer from sciatica pain so I know how bad it can be. What has recently helped me is adding a muscle relaxer( flexeril) which also helps me sleep better in addition to physical therapy. If you can't get in to physical therapy right away, there are some stretches to can learn online ( you tube) which can help relieve the pressure in the sciatic nerve. It's hard to explain in words, it's better if you can watch how it's done. Also you can alternate with ice and a heating pad to help the inflammation. Hope you find some relief soon.
Physical therapy is essential. You have twisted your spine out of alignment by not walking properly. A lot of nerve pressure is relieved when regaining your stride and center of gravity. It will take work on your part. Combining with a good pain clinic in a few months you will bring back your core strength and can feel much, much better. By maintaining proper walking and posture many end up pain free. So much has been learned and found to help in the past few years. I hope that you can get the help you need. You may find pain pills can be almost gone. It is about realigning the hips, legs and feet. Good luck.
