I watch her take it but it does not stop her drinking
Hello hrbrock. Are you certain that shes taking Antabuse? It's virtually impossible for her to drink and take Antabuse and not be violently ill. It can possibly kill her. If shes mixing the two, I'd not give her any more Antabuse and talk to her doctor. Thats the suggestion. There are other products available but (my own opinion) none as effective as Antatbuse is to deter a person from drinking alcohol. Best of wishes, pledge
Are you sure that she is swallowing the pill? Some people are quite clever at "tongue-ing" the pill. They will put thepill in their mouth, slip it under the tongue, hold it there while they swallow water then walk away and spit it out after they get out of the givers sight. Ask her to take the pill in front of you then check her mouth and make her lift her tongue to show you underneath before you let her go. As Pledge said, there is no way someone could have swallowed and absorbed this medication and then drink. It will make them violently ill. People who dont WANT to change their behaviors can be very clever at outwitting ways to MAKE them stop a behavior. Antabuse is only a tool. The real work has to come from a person who truly wants to change their ways. Another person cannot force them-it just doesnt work. Another possibility is that she is making herself vomit the pill as soon as she takes it but it is more likely she is holding it under her tongue and only pretending to swallow. You can try sending her to meetings but she has to WANT to change herself.
