Valsartan and Diovan still each cost between $700 and $900 once I hit the donut hole this coming year. I'm looking for a med that will be a real generic, as in $0 copay, and replace Diovan/valsartan.
Valsartan is the generic. There is nothing else. No way should valsartan be costing you that much. The drug companies who manufacture generics have decided if there isn't much competition, they were going to raise the price of needed drugs, like bp meds, sky high. Some have gone up 5000 x. I changed my bp med because of it. Even so the price I'm seeing for a month of valsartan is 175-200.
I switched because I saw it driving me into the donut hole too fast.
Next year we'll have almost 200 more before we hit the donut hole, but with the way generics are going up, its not going to help us. I've actually tweeted the white house calling their attention to the price gouging.
