Is there a cheaper alternative to exalgo and when will there be a generic?
Yes. The good news is they just came out with a generic Exalgo ER a couple of months ago. The bad news is... it's still $377-$477/ month (30
days). I have spoken with two pharmacies and each one is thinking that it might take up to 2 years for the price to go down. I am losing my husband's insurance in a couple of months so I am going to have to figure something else out, because that price per month is impossible! Does anyone know how 8 milligrams of the ER translates into the short-acting hydromorphone? I'm hoping I can either use it instead of the ER. If it's just as expensive as the ER, then maybe I can use it in decreasing doses to wean myself off. But my doc couldn't even tell me how many mg of the short acting form is equivalent to the 8mg Extended Release. Anybody know? Either way, I don't look forward to the withdrawal process. I can't take ANYTHING with
codeine in it, so I'd really like to be able to just wean off by titrating the dose on the short-acting hydromorphone.
