... as the brand name as my BP has increased. Please explain the reasons. I have experienced generics not working as well as the brand name in other drugs.
I was recently told by my druggist that brand & generic's are required to have the same ACTIVE ingredients, but can have different INACTIVE ingredients (such as the color, etc.) I don't know if inactive ingredients can make a difference - just wanted to pass along what my druggist told me. I haven't yet had experience with generics.
Benicar HCT is not a generic medication but a dual medication. The HCT is a diuretic. I take Benicar but can't tolerate the HCT. No form of Benicar is generic.
Took Benicar for ten years, no problems, worked well. Tried generic Benicar for 5 weeks, then BP raced to 160/110, headaches, thought it was sinus. Back on brand name Benicar, BP back to 126/82. It was a real hassle requesting the pharmacy to take me off the generic. Benicar and generic are not the same. If Doctor says the brand name is required then insurance will pay for the real Benicar.
