... addicting /
None that I know of. They usually work on a build up method in your system.
If you were looking for something like Valium then there is Valerian root. You can get that at a health food store. Benedryl can also calm you down too. But neither one is not used for Generalized anxiety disorder.
Sorry I could not give you a better fix for your condition.
I would suggest getting a therapist for your GAD. He or she would definitely help and if meds were in order, he/she would be able to work with you in finding something that isn't so addictive (BENZOS SUCK-they are the worst because they work so well). Anyway, I'm glad itsmetoo has been here for you and don't hesitate to post anytime like she said. Also, drugs.com has a forum area where you can post/blog about tapering etc. There's this great guy here that I know that has helped 100s of people taper safely off of subs, percs, methadone, etc. If you send him a private message here on-line, I know he would gladly help you. His name is Robert_325 and he is VERY popular in the forum because he checks back with people several times a day. I hope this helps.
I would recommend Cognitive behavior therapy like mentioned above. There are a few drugs that no one metioned that can be used that aren't abused by addicts such as Beta Blockers that lower your heart rate. This can help many people with General Anxiety Disorder. Tricyclic Antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors can reduce social anxiety. SSRI's like Paxil are FDA approved for treatment of General Anxiety Disorder. However medication along with CBT is not recommend do to a study that was done that stated that it failed. It's better to do CBT or try one of he latter medications suggested. I hope this helps! Happy Holidays!
