... depression, & sleep problems for about 3 months. I have been taking Citalopram (Celexa) 20mg for 5 1/2 weeks, and my doctor just recently increased the dose to 30 mg three days ago. I also take 1 mg of Ativan daily. I take 0.5 in the afternoon, and 0.5 Ativan with 25 mg Hydroxyzine and 2mg Melatonin at bedtime. I am just hoping that the Celexa will really work for me and I will be able to feel more like myself again and be able to sleep on my own again! I really want to totally wean off of the Ativan. Any advice or just encouraging words please!

Hello Hopeforhealing. C gave you a very kind and caring welcome. My name is and I know fairly well many of the psychiatric drugs. To answer your question. I can tell that your prescribing doctor is extremely cautious. The medications except for the celexa which still is not at all close to being high, the other 3 are minimal. The melatonin, is minimal at best. Its not close to what say Trazodone might be doing. The Hydroxyzine when mixed with the melatonin, might get you drowzy but I doubt you're sleeping soundly. Deeply rather. The ativan is minimal. I don't know how high your anxiety levels are and how long they run for. So, not certain what you want to know. Is the combination one thats working, only you know that. You've only just begun your treatment, and if you feel better, your anxiety levels are managable, sleep is decent, then thats good. Things will get better. They always do, sometimes it takes awhile, just as it takes medications awhile to do thier magic so to speak. Very best to you, lots of great folks here on the site,
i suffer from the worse anxiety/panic and am taking .05 mg xanax as needed,im also on 40 mg prozac a day. i also suffer from insomnia so my dr told me at bed time i could double up my dose and take 2 making it 1mg. it helps me get atleast 5 hours of good sleep. yesterday i had 2 panic attacks that was just so horrible i could have just jumped up running around in panic, but i was able to close my eyes and self talk to bring level down being that was at a birthday dinner at my familys house. so i hung on for dear life, and as soon as i got home, washed up for bed, put the pjs on, and took 1 mg of xanax, and low and behold, whalllla, it took away my panic and i went to sleep. i did journal and pray first. it will get better. hang in there and keep comming back
I have had trouble with sleep as well. I use to take ambien but I had horrible side effects and it did not interact well with the paxil I was also on. My doctor has changed my perscriptions and I am totally off sleeping meds. I take melatonin like you but also 2 valerian root capsules. Perhaps you can ask your doctor about adding that. I find I fall asleep more natural and have a productivei know sleep rather than just feeling knocked out. I know my response is a year later but I hope it finds you well rested.
