... for 6 mo and now my counts are both down, could this be a cause?
I realize this answer is very, very late but may help someone.
Low white blood cells is a known side effect of gemfibrozil ... and although there is no note about it lowering platelets, it does say that it can alter blood coagulation (so perhaps it does lower platelets).
I hope your doctor was able to help you with everything.
