My husband is currently receiving chemotherapy of Gemzar and Abraxane. Gemzar alone did nothing for his Stage IV pancreatic cancer, nor did radiation or 5FU. This is a very aggressive disease. He is 63 years old and was diagnosed well over a year ago at Stage III. The cancer became Stage IV at the end of last year when there were mets to the liver. He has had three treatments of Gemzar/Abraxane. First, he is given anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea infusions. The Abraxane is next and the Gemzar is last. His worst side effect is fatigue. Today he is getting an injection to boost his white blood cell count since he does not begin his second round of this chemo for two weeks. He still goes to work every day, but I know he is very tired. He continues to lose weight and we have come to terms that these treatments are only buying him a little more time. I am praying that the Abraxane slows the spread of this horrible disease. If it doesn't, the only other treatment is Folfirinox, which is extremely toxic and boasts serious side effects which my husband will not be able to tolerate. My husband has already beaten the odds. He was told he only had 6 months left when he was diagnosed, but we are approaching the two-year mark. Everyone is different and miracles do happen. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
