... 70 lbs lighter. My unused larger stomach is filling with gas and I frequently have an extended abdomen. An Xray in October verified large spots of gas. It this normal? I thought my larger stomach was empty & dormant. I now have extreme occasional pain in my right upper abdomen when this stomach fills with gas. I went back to my Bariatric Surgeon as he said everything looks fine, though no tests were performed. I just had Endoscope and they were only able to view my small stomach. Does anyone have any advice?
This isn't normal. See another surgeon, one not connected with the previous one. Since you had a RNY surgery, it might be possible to reverse some of the loss of your small intestine, which is where almost every drug and nutrient is absorbed. You will be sorry if that isn't done and you're in pain, for example, and the pain medicine leaves you in 1 hr. and no Dr. understands or believes you. This is happening to many RNY patients right now. They are asking for help in questions on this site right now.
The gas leakage should be addressed by this new surgeon. I'm suggesting that the stapling off of the small intestine be reversed as much as possible at the same time. You can research sleeve gastrectomy and compare it to gastric bypass to see the difference in absorption of everything you need in your body. You may be lucky that there's a reason to go back to surgery.
