Would Garcinol be safe to use with daily Grape Seed Extract (300mg), - taken for Proanthocyanidin anti-cancer action, and similarly Turmeric (3g) for Curcumin anti-cancer action?
Curcumin and Garcinol also act as antioxidants - like the proanthocyanidins in Grape Seed Extract. It is said that in high doses, antioxidants can act as oxidation agents, which are damaging. This makes it important not to take very high doses of such GSE and the like. The manufacturers of my GSE tablets state that the daily dose of 2 x 300mg should not be exceeded. Blood levels - it is said - generally decrease after 4 hours of ingestion. Therefore, if taking daily GSE and Curcumin/Garcinol or other high proanthocyanidin containing foods such as Cinnamon, it makes sense to take them at least 4 hours apart and to limit the daily total. along the lines suggested by the GSE manufacturers. I will therefore take Cinnamon (3g) and Ginger (2g) at breakfast, 3g Turmeric (Curcumin) with 3g Kokum (Garcinol) at lunchtime, and one 30mg GSE tablet in the evening. I would not take the maximum of 2 GSE tablets while I am taking other antioxidants aswell.
