Gabapentin - I am alleric to oxycontin. Would this med be the same catagory. Just started today for

opiates have not proven to be all that successfull for any type of neuropathy pain. Gabapentin and it's stronger brother Lyrica are usually used for nerve pain... Dave
yes, oxycontin is a narcotic and in completely different category than neurontin (gabapentin) and lyrica. however, i had side effects from neurontin like dizziness, feeling high ect, but i took really high doses. abandoned it for lyrica.
Yes, oxycontin is a narcotic drug produce hangover effect after the sleep. you replace by other neuro analgesic.
I don't believe they are in the same category. If your allergic to oxycodone I believe your safe to take gabapentin.. How ever it's not as effective. My husband and my father in-law both take gabapentin
I am also allergic to oxycontin but tolerate 2400 mg gabapentin just fine. Whatever you do DO NOT stop the gaba suddenly.
