... disorder..and a low dose of Effexor for anxiety Would adding gabapentin help?
I've heard of doctors prescribing Neurontin for anxiety, yet it seems to be a newish 'off label' treatment.
I'll tell you my experience with Neurontin, (or gabapentin, the generic name) I started at 300mgs 3 X daily for horrible neuropathy (nerve pain, very hard to treat and VERY painful!) which did nothing, so my doc upped the dose until I was at 900mgs 3 X a day. This seemed to whip me into a frenzy instead of a calming effect, like most people experienced. BUT, at lower doses it will help your anxiety, which seems extreme and hard to treat. I'm so sorry that you are having such horrible anxiety, it's not a comfortable way to live! Anxiety or depression are just as bad as Hair Afire pain, as I experience!
So give it a go, won't you? Also, if you care about others it would be fantastic if you came back on this site to leave information about Neurontin helping your anxiety, your experience with it, how well it worked, etc.
Best wishes to you and I truly hope Neurontin helps your anxiety!
I take gabapentin for pain. I think it's for nerve pain but it's also supposed to be for a serious pain in my lower back. My prim care doc and my psych both agree on this medication. I dont feel any different with the gabapentin actually. I am almost afraid of complaining about it as my psych tends to raise the dosage on things. I take clonapin for anxiety disorder but she is trying to ween me off of it as she claims it is addicting. I went from 0.5 mg three times a day which helped me a lot. I actually went outside during the daytime and spoke to neighbors that were out. Then she had me on two a day and now one 0.5 mg a day. I have went back into seclusion and only take out my trash between 2am to 4am. i am so afraid of encountering a neighbor because I dont want them to think I am a snob because I run or walk fast to avoid them. If I do encounter them or during doctor visits I will shake and sweat so bad it is noticeable.
