I've never been covered by MediCal or had any private insurance
I don't know about the new medical coverage people talk about, but what I did a few years ago- I applied for state aid first because it's faster than federal. I waited a few years for Medicaid. But now I wish I would have taken advantage of the state dental assisstance first because Medicaid is pretty worthless as far as that goes. I'd just assumed federal medical would cover more. So check into the differences in your state. As I said, state aid is quicker so get that going to hold you while you wait for federal. Go to your local DSHS office.(Dept of Social and Health Services) The people who work there can answer all your questions. Sometimes there's a long wait but don't lose your patience. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, my Grandma used to say.State only wants to be a temporary help.
If you are seeking disability funds also keep all your medical records and tell your Dr because they'll need to assess how the hepatitis is affecting you, and can help or hinder that decision, because of course the sicker you are the more help you get. (I have hepC too) Good luck :-)
Depending on your location, there should be some medical clinic that will take you. Seems you have access to the internet look for Community Health Clinic or Center. Something like that. They charge you based upon your income. Zero income, zero cost. Once you have a doctor and he verifies your condition, meeting all the necessary criteria for treatment, he'll prescribe the correct medications, such as Harvoni. Next, to pay for the medicine, the manufacturer thereof has assistance. There is also a foundation, called Patient Advocate Foundation, look up their closest location to you, and they will work with you until you get coverage. Believe me I was helped by them, and they were incredible. I was denied 3 times by 3 different groups that help pay for the cost of the medicine, before finally they found a source who could help me obtain Harvoni. I am so grateful for their assistance. Remember it will be a process. Be patient. It will happen, you just have to find your way through the maze. But there is a path, and you will get treatment. Good Luck
Well the very first thing that you do is sign up for Obamacare, which is officially called The Affordable Healthcare Act, or ACA. Then once you sign up for Obamacare it allows you to be treated for pre-existing medical conditions which, in this case for you is the hepatitis C virus. You will be given Medicaid which could be called by several different names from Humana, United, Buckeye, Care Sours or any other. Then you find a gastroenterologist or a liver doctor. When you visit the doctor, the doctor will petition Medicaid or your insurance to cover treatment for hepatitis C, which is a deadly disease.
So you want to sign up for Obamacare and you want to get a doctor and the doctor will take it from there once you sign up for Obamacare and get your insurance. Well, I hope this helps and good luck for the future.
