Hello, does anyone know where I can fulfill a prescription for 3% Carbachol? My dad has glaucoma and the pressure has reached a critical level, particularly in one eye. He has a prescription for Carbachol as a last effort before another surgery. We're searching in the Bronx, NYC and local pharmacists say it is no longer being manufactured anywhere. Please help, my dad is facing blindness.
Hi mdsaintp: I am a pharmacist in NC and saw your question. I called Alcon Pharmaceuticals and their brand name product Isopto Carbachol was discontinued in 2012. I also am not seeing that a generic product is available, either. You may want t relay this information to your father's doctor as soon as possible who can decide if he wants to prescribe an alternate medication. There are many other products on the market that can lower intraocular pressure, and your doctor will be able to best direct your father's care.
