... therapy, ART therapy, Trigenics, nothing has worked! Has anyone hard of Hydrostatic Distension injections and do they work? I am almost seven months into this, if one shoulder is not bad enough, both are frozen. I believe I have passed the inflamation stage, freezing stage and an now entering the frozen stage. I can hardly move either shoulder. Ugh!
I have had 2 rotator cuff surgeries since Mar.-same shoulder. The 1st failed just past the 3 month point; I think, but cannot prove, due to an overly aggressive physical therapist. When I went back to my Orthopedic surgeon complaining of renewed pain, he ordered another MRI, which showed the tendon had torn away from one of the 4 anchors. Aug.2 was my next date with the surgeon-he said that after he began, he discovered that my shoulder had so much scar tissue that he could only lift my arm to shoulder height. This had formed in less than a month after the last PT session and the 2nd surgery- end of June to Aug--- so didn't take long. I DO know that if scar tissue is the cause of your pain/frozen shoulders, that the only way the Dr.'s can "break " it is via manipulation under anesthesia-would be far too painful otherwise. Unfortunately, physical therapy won't help if that is the root cause.
You didn't mention whether you've had surgery-if so and if you had a period of forced immobility-sling, etc.-that could be the cause. Have you seen an orthopedic surgeon yet? I have read, as I'm sure you have, that frozen shoulder syndrome usually resolves within 2 years without surgery-but, I can just imagine the pain! Also have read that the cortisone/steroid injection may cause the condition to worsen-if you do have an issue causing this-such as a Slap tear or rotator cuff disease/tear, the injections and/or PT could also make it worse and cause weakening of the tendons .
If you haven't, my suggestion would be to see an Ortho and get an MRI to try to discover the cause. Best of luck to you- I well know how much that hurts. Liz
