I took suboxone for 2+ years before tapering down to 2 mgs. When I asked my doctor to get off, we agreed it would probably be easier to switch to morphine so that I could reduce all the way down. I started at 6 - 15 mg morphine time released a day and have reduced to 3 - 15 mg time released every 8 hours. Apparently, because I use the generic they don't last the full 12 hours. I really want to be done. The morphine makes me feel sick a lot. I have a window of about 14 days where my work will be minimal. What advice would you give? Don
Hi donmack, You do not say if you were opiate dependant or not. Are you taking the subs/meth for opiate withdrawal?
If you are, I would say go for cold turkey! If you have a fortnight of holiday, then what the hell, you can do this. It will not be easy, but good things are seldom easily done. Good luck to you Don!
If you will google the Thomas recipe opiate withdrawal, you will see a list and a journal composed by Thomas when he wanted to stop opiate, get the otc meds and supplements listed and read the journal to know what to kind of expect. One way to help heal the damaged neurotransmitter/receptor sites in the brain is to perform light exercise or walk to reboot the brain. It really really does help, you can start walking/ exercising before you stop. You won't feel like doing it when you stop the medication, but force yourself if you can. Enlist someone to be there for support for you, that will also be critical.
