helped by this? My 97-year old friend has suffered from severe shingles pain for the past 8.5 years. I believe that it's particularly difficulty to get over it as you get older because the immune system gets so impaired. The doctors tried every medication, even marijuana, injections, you name it, during that whole time. Nothing ever helped him at all, until now. CELEXA (an anti-depressant) has taken away most of his pain. Imagine that! Thought this might be of help to someone else.
A friend was helped by Celexa for shingles after many yrs of no relief. Anyone else to be?

Hello endlessPred,
I currently have both Gabapentin and Lidoderm patches for pain. Both work for me too, but recently I have been seeing a podiatrist and he prescribed Flector patches. Both patches work for my pain, but what I like more about the Flectors is that you can use them over and over without having to wait like you do with Lidoderm patches. With the Lidoderms you are instructed to leave them on for up to 12 hours and then 12 hours off, whereas the Flectors you can use them back to back without the wait time in between. As far as I can tell they both work for me and the Flectors are easier on the skin to take off. They are expensive though so watch out!
Good to know. The wait is tough at first, but once it isn't the front to back wrap around and some does heal, then I went to areas that really made me crazy. I have had numerous outbreaks since this started and I still have five or six that popup every week. They may be few but they remain fierce.
I will ask the doc about Flectors. Are you saying these are not covered by Medicare? The others are. Karen
Hello Karen,
Flector patches are covered by Medicare and you will not have to pay $250 for a box of them.
Good to know. I am way past the donut hole so they probably are a few dollars like my other patches. Thanks again.
You are welcome Karen. They cost me $6.60 a box, but you might want to ask your Medicare health adviser about the cost for yours.
