Meloxicam is an NSAID and NSAIDS can damage the stomach lining so it is customary to prescribe a proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole to protect the stomach lining. As kaismama mentioned, you dont have to take them at the same time but you shouldnt take the meloxicam unless you have also taken the omeprazole.
