Wednesday night my middle finger was smashed by a pool table since than I can't bend the knuckle closest to my hand and it got cut from the pool table, there's swelling bruising and its crocked to the left... I have no feeling in the tip of my finger and been told it looks as if I fractured it. I've been keeping a splint on while I'm awake but its become painful more than usual while I'm trying to do things. How long do I need to keep it splinted and what could be wrong with it?? It hurts for anything to touch or be placed on my knuckle to bring down swelling or keep it some what straight.
Hello, you should be trying to ice it. Rather than laying a brick of ice on it put some ice in a sandwich bag and put your finger in that so that you don't have to force your finger straight just push it in around crushed ice would be best. You should go to the ER because even if it's not a compound fracture it could still be a hairline or simple fracture and if that's the case you will need to follow both of them and Drs treat them accordingly. Unfortunately the ice will help but the seriousness of it is that blood supply and the bone breaking may be key issues that need professional assessment and treatment. Good luck.
