... was put inside since it was a very complicated fracture. After three months, she feels a lot of weight( tons) on that shoulder and says it feels the arm is made of stone, it's so stiff. Can anybody tell us why she has this feeling? She is miserable
I was going to ask you if your sister has been back to the doc, and if x-rays were done to confirm that the fracture was healed correctly? Did your sister receive physical therapy? The titanium plate and screws are very light weight, so I do not believe it is the hardware giving her the "heavy" feeling. She might have a kind of "placebo" effect going on. Just the fact that she knows there is hardware in there, she thinks it should be heavy, therefore it actually feels heavy. She might also have either a nonunion (not healed) or a malunion (healed incorrectly). I also think she might have some problems bending her arm because scar tissue in her arm is not allowing full range of motion. I would have her go back to Doc and explain all of the symptoms, and if you are not getting the answers you want, get a second opinion. Hope it helps. Feel free to ask more. L
