... Was sent to Radiologist who said only he or cardiologist are properly trained to install ports. Is this true?
Ports that are put in with the use of radiology are done by an interventional radiologist. This is most of them these days. A surgeon can do it, but then its more involved with some anesthesia and use of the or. Ive seen cardiolgists put in central lines but not ports specifically.
When I had mine put in for Chemotherapy Cancer doctor set up everything so I really don't know what kind of surgeon he was. But any surgeon can do it as long as they are trained but to put one in backwards is all most unbelievable being what I seen when he showed it to me and explained what things did. And the cord or hose goes just the one direction I think if anything it could have been a manufacture default. No doctor would put it in not knowing what they are doing when you are that close to the heart. I am upset now that this Wednesday is my last Chemo. And they told me I have to go in the office every month to have it flushed with Heparin at 35.00 copay per month. But they sure beat the pick line. Right now the best thing is to just think of your treatments, Don't worry about all of this you must focus on this and get through it make notes of questions so when you see your doctor we get so weak during this period. And a type of chemo brain. Stay positive and take advantage of people wanting to help I had 3 different people from the hospital a Nurse, Therapist and someone else just coming once to twice a week just to see if I needed anything. But the Nurse was here for bed sores that I got at the hospital. I am a very lucky man they did not expect me to make it.I wish you all the best through this very trying time and be glad it is now and not 10 years ago or longer they have so many Cancers they can cure. Keep the faith whatever it is think positive and keep your since of humour. My friend don't sweat the small stuff put it on hold and focus on your health Chuck1957 Have a great long life don't give up it is not easy. But you can and well notice soon. Sorry for my errors in typing but the chemo has affected my eye site and I have a hard time seeing But they say this too well come back.
