I am 27 years old and I have been taking .5mg-1mg of alprazolam every night at bedtime for a lil over 1 year now. I just found out im pregnant (about 4 weeks) and ive been reading about how bad it is for the baby, will I be ok withdrawing from this dose or should I taper? I know I need to talk to my doctor im just looking for some insight or experiences.
Hi ohmeohmy... Because your doctor well need to know asap give them a call and ask there are several ways of handling this but best to get it right from the horses mouth lucky your on a lower dose than many..I hope its congraduations Not all of us are the same i have no problem stoping and starting others the littlest amount they have problems so being a week day i would call your doctor..And go from there they may give you a few options... best of luck Chuck1957 medically retired pharmacy technician Cpht
You don't want to put the baby thru the withdrawal. Chuck is right, you need to tell you obstetrician and let him help.
Best to consult the prescribing physician for direction on how to best reduce and stop. After a year you will have a hard time trying to do it yourself, potentially taking longer and suffering the withdrawal, which can be quite unpleasant, especially combined with the pregnancy. Do it today!
