I have been on birth control for 3 months but it has not been perfect use the last few weeks. I finished my period 2 days ago but did not start my birth control on time. I took my first pill tonight but I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend who usually pulls out but didn't this time. Is plan B necessary? I have heard they are very bad for you, mess up your cycle and have nasty side effects. I don't particularly want to take one.
You have to weigh your options. Run the risk of getting pregnant versus getting some pretty mild side effects. Have seen all forms of plan b brand and generics used effectively. In three years can think of one person out of thousands who actually reported 'bad' side effects. I would take this up with your BC perscriber. They will give you the best answer taking into effect ovulation period, days skipped, etc. Some may even tell you to take more of your regular BC as an emergency contraceptive, which is common off label use. If sticking to the daily regimen is to much consider the ring, the shot, or once weekly dosing.
