Should I give him more water and less drinks that has sugar or caffeine in it, like sweet tea and so forth?
No caffeine! A 5 y/o child shouldnt be getting caffeine anyway but definitely no caffeinated drinks, like tea or colas, with Concerta. It can cause insomnia in the child. Water, juice and milk are the best things for young children to drink. It is important to keep a child on Concerta well hydrated. Some will tell you there are links between sugar and ADHD but really, there is no study showing a direct link so the jury is still out although many parents feel their children get more hyper after high sugar foods and drinks so it may be best to limit artificially sweetened drinks and foods with high sugar content like candies, soda pop and other sweets.
