I been on Prozac for over 20 years. What is the long term effects on my body and mind?
Most of us who need anti depressants generally already have a imbalance of chemicals in our brain and drugs like anti depressants make your brain produce the proper ones. There really is no long term effects on the body, when or If you decide to go without your brain is going to be some high state of shock but it will normalize eventually.
You run the risk of having a psychotic break. If you come off the medications too fast
Hi, Cece! There is limited data available on the long term effects but there have been several reported cases of patients experiencing restlessness, tension, agitation, and sleep disturbances. These symptoms resolved after discontinuation of the medication.
One effect you should be especially aware of is diabetes mellitus which can occur in a small percentage of cases but this would be detected by blood work... usually done as part of your annual physical check-up.
Best regards, Wildcat
