I am currently waiting for Physical Therapy for muscle tension in my shoulder. I am 12 weeks. My Ob prescribed me a 5 day supply of hydrocodone bc fexiril makes me too tired and restless. They denied a second refill, which I understand, but I am still in pain and I just can't take the flexeril. They also cause headaches. Any suggestions? Should I ask my doc again?
Hey Skylor's Mom!
All hydrocodone does is kill pain... it won't relax your muscles. I use Soma to relax my muscles and it works great. Flexeril never worked for me.
Now Soma might make you too relaxed, but it does work for me. I take it only at night or when my muscles are really stiff. And when my muscles are stiff, I will take it with Norco (hydrocodone 10mg/APAP 325mg).
I'm prone to headaches but never get headaches from Soma. Maybe you won't either. Ask for Soma instead. It may make a difference you like.
Just a suggestion.
Congratulations on having a baby! Personally, I would go by what your OB doctor recommends. That is their specialty, health and safety of both mom and baby. Maybe you have a partner willing to give deep muscle massages until your PT begins? Also ask the doc if there is a prescription medication you could take that would not be harmful to the baby. There's a valid health concern which is why you were given only 5 days worth of vicodin and no refills. Are the shoulder aches an on going thing or pregnancy related? I hope it's a temporary condition and PT should help a lot. There's also some good OTC massage creams and lotions for sore, tense mucsles. Double check with the pharmacist and be sure to read all labels. I hope you have a very smooth pregnancy and a happy, healthy baby! best wishes, chris
