How does flagyl eliminate infections?

Re: protozoans: I was able to find that the activity of flagyl/metronidazole against Trichomonas, amoebae and Giardia is likely to be attributable to disruption of existing DNA and inhibition of its synthesis in those organisms.

Re: bacteria: Sadly, I was only able to find that it kills or interferes with normal growth of bacteria.
