... itching on elbows, crotch, a lot. Cardio just reduced to 1/day, saying it was the only thing possible. Also on ARV's, two of which have rashes as side-effects, but before taking ARV's last year I had worse rashes. Steroid ointment is not working now in crotch and elbow areas. Some a like bumps, like bites of mosquito, but aren't, and are driving me nuts during the night. Would like any feedback! Thx!
You likely have the alpha-gal allergy. Alpha-gal is an enzyme found in many mammals, including cows, pigs, sheep, deer, but not in humans. The allergy is usually started by having been bitten by a certain type of tick that has also bitten one of these mammals that has the enzyme. When you then consume the meat, or other byproducts from a mammal that has the enzyme, you have the reaction of hives, possibly diarrhea, shortness of breath, fatigue. I learned about it after having a serious attack of anaphylaxis after starting a regiment of fish oil capsules. Thinking that it may have been the fish oil itself, I switched to crille oil capsules, with the same result. That is when I suspected the gelatin, not the fish oil, which led me to the research. The gelatin is made from cow hide. I also have less serious reactions after eating a serving of beef, pork or lamb.
