I believe I have suffered from RA for approx. 8 or 9 years. In September I went to my family doctor with my ankle swollen at least 2x its size. He took one look at my deformed hands and did 2 blood tests for RA-both came back positive. At that time he prescriped Mobic and a referrel to a specialist. I feel 75% better. The RA specialist today gave me rx for Methotrexate 2.5 mg 6 tablets once a week and also an rx for folic acid. After reading all the possible side effects I am VERY wary of starting this medicine. With the mobic I can do my job standing for my 8 hour shift. My question I don't feel that bad now is it worth it to take this medicine to prevent further damage?
You need to weigh the risk verses benefits for yourself ... and I don't know your age either.
Mobic will relieve the pain now but it won't stop disease progression. Methotrexate on the other hand, has it's side effects (but some people won't feel any) but it also delays disease progression. That will be the benefit of methotrexate.
