I got on birth control about a week after my period. I ended my period on a Sunday, then went to the doctor the on Wednesday and got the prescription, then started taking the pill that following Sunday. I have 4 pills left in the pack and I got my period today. Is this normal? I know the pills are working because I've had sex without other forms of contraception besides my birth control and I'm obviously having a period which means I'm not pregnant. Should I start a new pack on Sunday or continue to take the sugar pills even though my period will be almost over by then? Will I not be protected the week I take the sugar pills? Anything helps, thank you!

Is it okay that I started the pills when I did? I know that usually people start them on the first day of their period or the Sunday after your period, but I read it was okay to start it in the middle of your cycle as long as you wait 7 days because you're not fully protected until after that.
You will get your period during the sugar pills. Didn't you start on Sunday? If so your last pill in the pack should be on Saturday and you start a new pack on Sunday. Once you are started on them your period has nothing to do with when and how you take your pills. You don't alter your pill schedule either. You are protected the week you take the sugar pills. Did you start bleeding on the active pills? If so its not a period its breakthru bleeding as your body is trying to get used to the pills.
