... Esophageal Cancer resulting from Barretts Esophaghus which I fortunately watched annually, but still had to endure surgical removal of my esophagus, and while I do virtually everything recommended, I still have a problem and fear of aspirating stomach acids. The Omeprazole works, but I have to take it twice a day 20mg ea. I would like to know if anyone has successfully completed their Harvoni treatment while on omperazole. I have searched the groups and cannot find the answer. Thanks to all for sharing. An Amazing group of people. Thank you
I would like to share your question, Mac2A. I am a 60-year-old man who has Barretts Esophaghus and HepC. I take Omeprazole 40mg 1/day and am considering Harvoni with my Gastroenterologist. I was a non-responder to simple Interferon therapy, followed by a full 12 months of Interferon/Ribavirin therapy back around the turn of the century and have not had any treatment since then. I pray you will have success with your treatments and would be grateful to follow your progress to help me make decisions regarding my treatments. God bless!
I was also take Omperazole 2x a day, but had to drop to one for the Havoni to have the best chance to work. I use a Sucralfate tablet to fill in at least 4 hours after the Harvoni or later and/or 6 to 8 hrs before my next dose. You can also use one Pepsid but 12 hrs after Harvoni and 12 hrs before next dose. Advice came from UCDavis pharmachologist. I wish you well. ♡♡♡
Hello Mac2A, I take Omeprazole once a day. I take it with the Harvoni. The thought being it will dissolve at the same time as the Harvoni. I'm no Dr. (don't even play one on tv) but I don't see why you couldn't take one with the Harvoni and one 12 hours later. I'm only 7 weeks into treatment but was clear at 4 weeks. Talk with your Dr. and see what he/she says about this idea.. Also someone on here from Sweden said their Dr. wouldn't let them take Omeprazole, but would let them take a tablespoon of baking soda in 8ozs. of water. This is an old folk remedy for acid indigestion. Hope you get some relieve soon. May God Bless.
