Pain Dr. is having me pick up a script for short acting morphine, but he did not give me the name of the medication. I need to call me Insurance to be sure they won't give me a hard time as it will be Friday afternoon, can anyone help with possible names of medications under "short acting morphine?" was on oxycontin 40mg 3 x a day?
Finally a change of medication but I don't know the name?

I finally got the name and dose of medication he is trying. Morphine sulfate 15 mg 1-2 every 4 hours as needed. Please.........does anyone know how this compares to that "new something awful wrong with it Oxycontin Formula?" 40mg 3x a day. I'm scared to death of feeling worse, but I feel really bad already, and I'm so tired of thinking about myself all the time I can't stand it. I just feel so awful, every day is a chore. I feel weak, shakey, agitated, scared and so foggy in the head, I am having such a hard time working. I don't know how much longer i can pull this off. Could this med change be part of my miracle?
buzzlebee, glad you finally are getting something that will help (hopefully) with your pain. A lot of people don't tolerate the long acting meds like Oxycontin that you were taking. The Morphine Sulfate is similar, but will be short acting is why it is taken every 4 hours. I really hope this helps you. You might want to go to Drugs A to Z at the top & type in your medication. Apparently there has been mix ups in getting ML instead of MG in prescriptions. Check out your script & ask the pharmatist when you pick it up about it too just to make sure.
This actually happened to my husband after surgery when he was on a morphime pump. The nurse was giving him ML instead of MG & almost killed him. So I'm saying check to make sure what the give you.
Good luck & let us know how it is going with the new med. I go to a new pain doc today to get off Methadone & back on Vicodin (which actually helped my pain) so wish me luck too! Your friend...
