The pharmacy said that they going to stop making the 10/500 and only going to have the 10/325 starting in 2014 because of the tylenol content. Do you know anything about this?
Yeah, it's been slow but sure. They are most definitely phasing out any combo product with 500mg or more per pill of acetaminophen to 325mg or less per pill. I don't think most people will notice a difference. Besides, if you do need the extra tylenol, you can always just take a regular tylenol with your medication. It's because they lowered the daily maximum allowed for Tylenol from 4000mg/day to 3000mg a day due to liver damage from long term use. The FDA announced this a while back, actually. I'm just surprised that it's taking so long to make the switch over. I don't think you'll have an issue as long as you make sure to tell your doctor to write your prescriptions out for 10/325mg hydrocodone APAP from now on, so you won't be left in the dark when the switch is finally made and you go fill it one day and can't get it because of the amount of acetaminophen it's written for. And if you're one of those uncommon people out there that respond to the higher dose of acetaminophen in the combo pain products, like I said, you can just take a regular Tylenol with your dose, just perhaps split in half so you don't take more than the recommended dose. They're doing this with Percocets too, though most of those already have 325mg APAP, I don't recall ever seeing them with 500mg, but I think they're made.
