... The new PCP just wants me to go to a Psychiatrist! Said it 4 times! I have had FMS, CFS, IBS, Anxiety and depression, Sciatica, COPD/Asthma, Over active Thyroid, etc for over 14 years. Am quitting smoking after 50 yrs at present due to a 3 day stay at hospital with Aschemic Colitis. Just got over Bronchitus 2 weeks ago; now have Asthmatic Broncitus and no doc to go to in my area that will address my issues. Need pain meds in order to function! Hydrocodone is the only one that has worked after many other attempts of other meds. I DO NOT abuse them and cut to 1/2 dose on good days. Have a previous dr's note in my file to prove this for over 6+ years. Help if you can, I'm at wit's end!!! I live in Standish, Maine, will travel 20 miles to find right doc. Prefer female but will take a male doc (previous sexual inappropriateness with male doc 12 yrs ago, so a little squimish). Need doc fast! Going to Gastro doc next week for stomach/intestine issues... still bloating and cannot eat. Very bland diet til lI see him. I hope this is enough info...

No, he gave NO indication as to why he found this to be the proper approach. He was quite arrogant, and I went through so much anxiety trying to figure him out, I requested another Doc but the service said the other 3 available would adhere to Dr J's decision! Sight or records unseen! I also had a hospitalization for Isclimic Bowel Disease which poured a lot of blood July 14thand spent 3 days in Hosp! All due to smoking. I burnt out the capillaries and now on a 6-8 week bland diet on top of all this! I just need to find a PCP who can continue my carefully monitored meds that have given me decent life w/ all this crap I fight everyday! I have also done much counseling in parenting, etc and substance abuse, etc for over 30 years as a Statewide Coordinator. I am still looking and asking folks where to go to but no solid answers as yet! I am not an idiot! I cut back on pain meds when having a good day, Burt DO need them to get out of bed and get enough sleep! All so I can have a nearnormal life! Geez!

Oh! I did find and have an appt for a Gastroenterologist in about 2 weeks.
Dear Moki 52, You have a whole basketful of maladies, not unlike many people suffering from illnesses. Without further information about what lead up to this doctor telling you to go to a psychiatrist, I can but say that as a doctor, she, with a professional oath, is obliged to help you with your medical issues and to direct you to the appropriate specialists. She is not qualified
nor is it appropriate of her to suggest psychiatric intervention only. Out of curiosity, did
this doctor as well offer to you a list of psychiatrists to see or places to go where you could find
talk therapy ? If she did not do this, I can only say that she handled things poorly and unprofessionally. I would recommend to you that if you have any trusted friends - ask them who
their PCP doctors are and if they would not mind if you went to see them in the hopes of finding
a new doctor for yourself. You may also ask any of your trusted other doctors what PCP's they would recommend to you. Stay focused on the issue. Some doctors can be very dismissive and
inappropriate, which unfortunately is the truth often. I hope anything I have said here can be of clarifying help to you and that I wish you good luck and stay focused. Charlett
It's great you found someone. I know you mentioned 20miles as a limit, but with so much medical stuff to have to stay on top of, maybe a visit to an doagnostic clinic could be helpful not only because he doctor's tender to be the best, but also they tend not to be judgmental. Hope you're feeling much better now at least.
Don't take it personally. Many doctors are not taking on patients who need controlled substances because of "Big Brother" and new laws.
Why not go to the fibro site org. They have fibro friendly doctors listed per area.
Good luck and don't let it get you down.
We wouldn't have this problem if we had uncontrolled hypertension. Would we?
So sorry things are so tough for you right now. The new PCP sounds like an arrogant jerk. You deserve a doctor who will listen and treat you appropriately. Maybe you could explain your situation to the gastro doc and ask him if he knows of any good primary care physicians. Ask friends/relatives or you could try these 2 websites which would allow you to do your own search: healthgrades.com and vitals.com. Both sites allow you to search for doctors (primary care & specialists) in a particular geographic location and include patient reviews. Good luck to you.
