Most days my fibromyalgia is so bad I can't stand it. I keep it bottled up inside me because i know my family gets tired of hearing me complain. I only complain to my family... the outside world doesn't even know the pain I am in everyday. This is my second attempt at Lyrica. I stopped taking it because I didn't fee any relief from it. My doctor told me I had to keep taking it and then he would increase the dosage. But I feel I am having side effects from this medication. In the morning when I wake, my hands and feet are swollen, i can't even make a fist in the mornings. What else is out there?
There are other meds out there like Lyrica but it really is the best drug for the pain. Most won't order opiates as they don't work for very long and you eventually become addicted. So keep try the Lyrica and get as active as you can and you will find the water retention will go away..Also watch what you eat, look up diet for fibro patients and try and follow what they recommend... Good luck... Dave
Subutex is an option. I saw a woman one day who could only sit on a table and cry in the office, she could not .even site in a chair. One a pain scale of 1-10 she was a 12.
At a later date I saw her and she was laughing. She said she was put on Subutex and she felt good... So with that said you might try it.
BTW: Only some doctors can prescribe it. To find a doctor go to NAABT.org
Now on that site you might see the word Suboxone. That is ok, if a doctor can prescribe Suboxone they can prescribe Subutex. Subutex can be bought in Generic
I wish you the best
Tramadol is another option. It's not a controlled substance. (It will be soon) Go to Ultram.com and read more about it. Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. There have been reports of Tramadol (Ultram) being abused and people becoming addicted to Tramadol. If you take it as prescribe you shouldn't have a problem. I have a few friends who have Fibromyalgia who take Tramadol to control the pain. Talk to your doctor about it. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
I was on lyrica for 3 years and still had the same symptoms you describe but they were not as bad being on the med but being on lyrica made me gain a lot of weight. Savella came out last year and I have been on it for 3 months. I have lost 31 pounds so far just by changin meds! Plus savella helps w depression which I have (I'm sure most do with fibro cause you feel so bad all the time). Its been a great change you just have to start slow on small doses to avoid seratonin syndrome which will cause your heart to feel like its gonna pound out of your chest and cause a heart attack. Start small small doses and increase about every ten days is what I did. Took bout one month to get on 50mg dose twice a day but I don't have weight gain or swelling or water retention. I still hurt... its not that good lol but helps so much! Hope this helps you. Kathaleen
