... now. I explained my symptoms to a friend and she told me to look up FM, to my surprise this sadly describes me. Does anyone know of alternative medicine to try?
I had a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and my doctor put me on the generic of Elavil, it is amitryptiline. It did work for me and is very cheap. You will get a very dry mouth and throat, especially at night and it can make you hungry after a while, but, hopefully you might be able to use this medicine.Hope you get some relief soon. Some are suggesting that the companies that make the newer drugs used to treat Fibromyalgia will help pay for the meds. Amitryptiline is an old drug, but, it used to be the one they used. Neurontin is another old drug which might help and has a generic that is cheap.
I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My mom has had it for many years. She has followed the treatment found on www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com. The doctor on this website recommends using guiafenesin. He has a book on it. I just finished reading the book and am going to start using it soon. My mom has used it for years with success. Hope this helps.
Dear One ~
Other alternatives that I have tried have included:
Acupuncture (gave it quite a while but it did not work, however, I became great friends with my acupuncturist and gained valuable information during those sessions)
Crainial Sacral therapist (a couple sessions but way too $ to try any more times)
Physical therapist (several sessions but too $ to give it much more of a trial)
Chiropractor (3 different ones at different 'stages' of this journey with Fibromyalgia)
Massage therapy (again, different ones at different stages, with different 'techniques')
And also some kind of 'biofeedback' therapy (gave it a 'fair' trial
Oh, and a 2,000$+ Ceragem 'bed' ~~ infra-red heat/massage rollers (worked great at first as most new things do, but hasn't be helpful in the past 6 mos to a year)
All that adds up to a whole lot of greens!!! (We haven't had insurance). Yep. *gentle sigh* :(. So far, the pharmaceuticals (especially **the NORCO+, most unfortunately) and a variety of supplements help 'most'.
However, I'm in a fairly severe 'flare' that isn't giving me but small breaks when the 'edge' is off the pain (the actual pain doesn't ever go away, it just lessens enough for me to get a 'break' now & then). ** I've posted a 'help' question about it (today)...
grateful for Him who is Rock, Fortress, and Might,
