Hi LynnefromNY, I have been in pain since I can't remember. My doctors have tried numerous meds and I to am not getting any relief. Someone told me to try acupunture. I'm trying hard to try some of the "natural remedies" The acupucture is helping a little bit. If you go to a chiropracter it will be covered under most insurances. My next step from the doctor is to take daily injections of a very nasty drug which i can't remember the name of at this time. I also have been diagnosed with Rhuematoid arthritis. I wish you all the luck and hope you find relief soon.
I'm sorry to hear you've been in pain for so long. I also have been in a constant flare since about April of this year. I was diagnosed with Fibro back in about 2000... though I've had it pretty much my whole life I think.
I HEAR YOU. It is indeed very difficult to fight for advocacy and understanding with Fibromyalgia. I fought long and hard to get SSI/SSDI since I am unable to work. Try your county and get a caseworker to walk you through the process if you need this helpful income. You should also look at the following books: Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofacial Pain: A Survival Manual and also The Fibromyalgia Adovcate by Devin J. Starlanyl- these books are validating of your frustration and have much advice and information that may help you. (information on metabolism, diet, pain management, possible underlying medical factors, how to talk to your doctor/find an effective doctor, and so much more!!!
I purchased a Theracane (just type it in and you'll get some places to purchase it from- it's about $40) to help me reach and release trigger points- which has helped immensely. I discovered that I also have chronic myofacial pain- which can be helped and decreased if you release trigger points. I didn't know I had it until I read Devin's book! I also realized that I may have had unnecessary root canal since it was most likely a trigger point in my jaw since the dentist didn't see inflammation, but we did it anyway since we didn't know it could've been a trigger point!!
Another idea is to eliminate aluminum from your life... it's in antacids, shampoo, etc. (also in saline solution drip if you end up in hospital). It's a trigger for many Fibromyalgia sufferers. I am also sensitive to flouride- which is in most drinking water- I started buying filtered water (reverse osmosis is only kind that removes this chemical- call and find out before you buy). I am also allergic to nickel.. which I thought nothing of until I found out my sensitivity to aluminum (they are both heavy metals). I am trying to convince my doctor/find a doctor who will test me for heavy metal toxicity and also for fluoride toxicity (I've recently discovered my teeth problems may be result of such toxicity).
Do research. Arm yourself with education and knowledge and NEVER EVER give up. You will find what works eventually... you must. (I'm not there myself, but I've at least improved things a tiny bit and feeling like I've learned a few things helps my esteem and hope levels.)
