... pain I am living with and hopefully (albeit unlikely) he will suggest something. If I was to suggest a ain killer, what would people recommend? I would be looking for something that would be relatively long lasting as opposed to an as needed product
I have had Fibromyalgia and several other Chronic conditions for 30 years.
The best combination of medications for Fibro I have found is a combination of:
Opana ER (this is an Opiod pain med- But the best I have found for my pain it actually makes the pain where it is not as Severe - The Opana ER ( ER stands for extended relief) Usually taken every 12 hours
I also take Lyrica & Cymbalta both of these medications are approved for Fibromyalgia. You might speak to your doctor about these medications and see what they think. Also most General Practice Doctor cannot prescribe the Opana. You will probably need to request from your doctor to reccomend a actual Pain Clinic to get the correct medication you need.
Anymore most Hospitals have a Pain Clinic group within the hospital.
Good Luck... this is a Very Long and painful trip. As I said before I have been battling Fibro and other Chronic Pain conditions for 30 years. And it seems like ecspecially with Fibro you may need to go to Several different Doctors to get the help you need. The awareness of Fibromyalgia has improved SO much since I was diagnosed but there are still the Doctors out there that think you are just complaining and over exaggerating the pain you have.
If you encounter them MOVE ON and find a Different Doctor.
ONE more thing I am not sure if you are currently going to Fibromyalgia Support groups within your community but they are SO helpful. It is SO nice to be with other people that know what you are actually going thru. And they are there to support YOU. They have a great extent of resources that you can check into. They also have Guest Speakers that come in that are professionals in this field. GOOD Luck. If you need any other info or just to have someone listen to you please contact me.
When I moved to AZ I attempted to find a GP who knew anything about Fibro. unfortunately didn't end up with one-diagnosed over 20 years ago and until recently found absolutely nothing to relieve the constant pain--have tried just about everything and when I go to the doctor he blames everything on the fibro but doesn't give me any suggestions as to what will help. I read about Savella and took the article from the internet to his Nurse Pract. who immediately prescribed it for me. What a relief. I hope you are able to find a caring doctor or nurse and you give it a try. I do have the sweats that seem to go along with it but they are lessening and I don't care as long as the pain is relieved. Good Luck to you!
