... been taking cymbalta 60 for about 9 months. I was still in a lot of pain and my doc told me to take 2 cymbaltas a day. I have been doing this for a couple of months now. Has anyone else ever taken that much cymbalta? Also my vision is really blurry. I still have a lot of pain, but I take trazodone at night, and it really helps me sleep
I have, yes. I didn't do well on the stuff, it gave me flu-like symptoms and weight gain. I didn't find it very helpful with pain because of the side-effects, but that's me. If it isn't helping you, tell your Doc so you can get on something that will work better. Hope this helps a bit.
The combination of Cymbalta and Trazodone is okay. There is a slight chance of Seratonin syndrome, but I'm taking Trazodone, another anti-depressant and a 3rd conflicting medication. My top of her class doctor at a major university said the chances of having that syndrome are rare, and if I do get the symptoms of it, just go to the ER and they can take care of it. I'm on the top dose of Trazodone and greatly need all three of the meds.
I was on the tiniest dose of cymbalta and was in the ER within five days. And never have touched it since. Lyrica, tiny dosage caused blurred vision within to days. Both these meds are in the class called SNRI's. I can't tolerate them. I didn't realize cymbalta could me doses that high. And you said you don't really have pain relief? I would talk to my doc about cutting back on the cymbalta or whatever you feel is least beneficial and add some meds for pain relief. You poor thing! Can you find a pain management doctor or will your doctor be willing to adjust your meds? Best!
Hi Terri and welcome, I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta (with other serotonin meds at the same time, BTW), and yes at the beginning it helped my pain, but the side effects were just too much. I finally went off of it after several years, (very slowly, and I do mean slowly), and I have lost over 70 pounds,+ the horrible side effects, some that I didn't even realize were side effects, went away! Not only that, but my pain never increased, which told me that the Cymbalta wasn't helping the pain! Your doctor is threatening you, and I surely don't like a doc that threatens me, when I do research, and they don't respect how I'm feeling. Yes, Cymbalta helps at first, but I don't think that you can find one person on this entire forum who has stayed on Cymbalta, as the side effects are too much, and the pain control goes away after a while. It's more of a lifestyle change that you have to do, rather than medication to help with fibro.
If you have other conditions that cause pain, then there are other meds you can take, but for fibro, there just isn't anything there for that pain, unfortunately.
Best wishes to you, and I hope that your doctor listens to you!!
Hello Terril. Sixty mg Cymbalta is what I take. I read the clinical studies and it said taking more is not proving beneficial. I can not see what it does for me but it is supposed to lift our mood.I have a lot of Arthritic pain in my hands and feet. I take Percocet for that but now its being monitored by the FDA and most doctors won't prescribe it. PLEASE. This is the question I would like answered. Do any of you have this debilitating pain, pressure, aching in the calves of your legs, sometimes the pain med does not work for me, went to bed in tears at 10 pm last night. I am going to pain manage ment Doc today but she does not do much. Please let me know about the legs.I have to leave here at 10.30 am, its now 9.40 am in Florida, hands hurt have to go. Cheers to all, J
I have been diagnosed with fibro, chronic pain, and psoriatic arthritis. I also take 60 mg twice a day. I am also on trazodone, but so far 50mg helps me sleep. I tried 100mg, and that's when I was having blurry vision. When I went back down to 50 on trazodone the blurriness went away. I'm also on lisinopril for high bp. as well as Klonopin for anxiety. Seems all my meds can have an affect on my central nervous system. I'm going to take all my meds in with me again next trip to any of my doctors and ask about this. I have read up on something called Serotonin Syndrome, which you my find on WebMD also. Some of the symptoms of this condition which can be caused by taking both Cymbalta and Trazodone at the same time (which no one including my pain doctor has mentioned I only found it through my own research on here).
I wish you luck and hope your vision clears. I'm still in pain also, I think due to new laws they're afraid to give us anything strong enough to really help, but only enough to ease it a little so they don't get into any trouble.
Personally I cannot take Lyrica or any of the drugs in that family. The Lyrica they tried seriously messed with my head and had me thinking some awful thoughts I don't care to discuss. Let's just say I'm severely allergic to them ALL. I tried a new one called Horizant because my pain dr. had some samples. Bad idea, it was as bad as Lyrica. Horizant is only gabapentin with another ingredient added so it enters your system differently. I was a totally differnet person on both. Now I find out re: Cymbalta and Trazodone possible incompatibility. I'm not liking my options at this point. I've tried all the biologics, and have even been on Rituxan via IV drip which is a pain med for cancer patients. I am about ready to throw in the towel, sit somewhere and spend all my waking moments praying for healing.
