way to wean off of the12.5 dosage? It's only been taken for 2 weeks. I'm part of a Hospice program and was put on this medication (I feel) incorrectly, especially since I had not been on any long term narcotics prior to this being prescribed. I stay dripping in sweat, feel nauseated all the time and experience bradycardia way too much. I've been reading through all the questions and responses on this page and I'm hoping someone can give me logical advice. Thank you!
Sweetie may I ask what your Hospice program is for... are you a terminal patient? If so, they may be trying to alleviate your pain, and even though you have not been on any long-term narcotic use (I myself was on 200mcg of Fentanyl) the 12.5mcg is not acually that strong and the black box warning was just recently placed on the 12.5/as well as the 25mcg... just a few short months ago these dosages were considered safe to use on chronic pain patients w/o long term use.
What kind of pain are you in... 12.5mcg is approx. (and this is from my PDR) the same as taking 2-3 Vicodin 10's or Percocet 5's a day only there is no peak.. thus no high.
My opinion is that the doc wants you to be pain free w/o having the added stress of having to remember to take pills that could potentially cause your bradycardia to turn into V-tach or worse flatline... if you took too many.
Have you been depressed, or are any family members expressing concern about your state of mind? That could also be a reason.
I guess I need a bit more info to help you.
I was a firefighter/medic for 12yrs then had 3yrs of med school before my hubby was shot in the line of duty as the Chief of Police... so I had to quit school to take care of my hubby and my children... he did survive...
Good luck my brother/sister... Blessed Be
