... me hugging and holding them that some of the medicine is getting in their system, by skin to skin contact. It has been over 100 degrees also,so we have all been sweating. I can't find any info. I just want to be relaxed and no im not harming them
You wont subject them to the medicine through your sweat or skin to skin contact. Just be sure that your patch is secure. They can be exposed if your patch comes off of you and sticks on to them. Be sure to wear your patch in an area under your clothes to decrease the chances that the patch could come of you and stick to another person. That is the only way they can be exposed to the drug when it is on you. Fentanyl patches are one drug that it is recommended to flush down the toilet when you are finished with them (unless your doc wants used patches brought back to him for a patch count) When removing them, fold it over sticky side to sticky side and flush promptly to avoid someone coming in to contact with one in the trash. There is more than enough medication to hurt a child or pet if they come into contact with a used patch.
waamah, rest at ease!!! I actually had an appt w pain doctor this after noon and asked him, not nurse, but the main drug doctor, about this straight out. He assured me there is nothing to worry about. As long as patch is not applied to them or eaten my them, there is nothing to worry about. I got this right from the source who is prescribing me the Fentanyl patch. I am on 100mcg every 48 hrs. I asked him twice, directly, and you can lay this worry down. Of course be sure to keep it out of their reach. I actually lock mine in a small box that I keep in a drawer, and that is just for my cats protection. He is curious and likes to chew. Luckily the packaging is really hard to get into with out scissors. This doctor has been treating my pain for over 7 yrs now, and it took us a long time to get to the levels I am at with patch and liquid morphine for break thru pain. He reassured me, twice, that your babies ARE safe. Maybe one less thing to worry about?? Take care, be well as can be...
add me as a friend?? I am new here and trying to get the hang of it. I was so surprised to see your question literally minutes b4 I walked out the door for appt w/ pain doctor. Felt like I could really get the help you were looking for. Good luck
I have been on the patches for 8 yrs. I have raised two grandsons with no problem. I do dispose of them in a jug after folding in half. Its greeting into your blood stream only if the patch is sealed to your skin. There's no way for them to get out from your touch or body as long as you wash up after handling the med.
