... is released daily? Hourly? Call me confused!
It is not too complicated. Once you put this patch on correctly, it will release 50 mcg/h of Fentanyl into your system. It does not work the same for everyone as the patch should last 72 hours but many find it to last closer to 48 hours. You have to see for yourself. The only think that can be tricky with the patch is external heat applied to it such as sun exposure on hot tub etc... This can release a lot more medication than 50 mcg/h and you can possibly overdose.
I used the patches for years and they were absolutely the most effective as far as killing my pain.
If you are on a 50mcg patch, it releases 50 micrograms per hour over 48-72 hours. It works by the medication permeating the skin by osmosis (remember that word from biology?), it is the movement of particles from an area of higher concentration (the patch reservoir) to an area of lower concentration (your skin and the fat layer beneath it) through a permeable membrane (the back side of the patch and your skin). Some people have good control for 72 hours but some find they need to change the patch at 48 hours.
