I have been on celexa for a 2 weeks now and for the first week I felt awesome now it feels like I'm becoming irritable again. The anxiety is much better but seems like I'm becoming Moody. Is this normal? I'm taking 10mgs. As my doctor felt fit for my condition. Any input will help. Thanks ;)
I went through kind of the same thing. The doctor started me on 10 mg for a little bit. That's usually the standard thing, they start you on a low dose and monitor you to see how your doing and to give your body a chance to get adjusted to it. I now take 40 mg which is the standard dose. It's just your body trying to get used to the medication. You can let your doctor know about the symptoms, and he can raise the dosage a little. You're going to have a few side effects, but they will subside when you keep taking it everyday. Let me know how you're doing.
Mood changes is a serious side effect of this medication and you must seek medical attention asap.
Hi, i had the same experience when starting celexa. I was started on 20mg and i was told to expect to feel worse before i felt better and that sometimes it can take about 4 weeks until your meds are working at full effect. This is true. I was changed to 40mg at the second or third week (can't remember exactly) as i just cried all the time and felt completely hopeless. Within a week of the increase i felt 100% better. It is usual for pretty much all anti-depressant meds to take 4 weeks to work properly, so try to hang in there if you can. Celexa is a really good a/d.
cgorres, I'm going thru the same thing. I'm on lexapro and it has worked good in the past but now my anxiety is high. I did try celexa too but I could not take it. So don't feel alone, i have been on just about everything. All of us are diffrent and things work diffrent on each of us. Please call your doc and let them know. Good luck and hope the next time we hear from you, you are doing better. God Bless
Thanks for your input, everyone. At 11 days on 20mg, I'm struggling with the same thing. I'm hoping my doc will move me up to 40mg at my appointment next week if I'm not feeling better.
FYI, I'm coming off of 60mg Cymbalta and moving to Celexa (which worked for me in the past), because the Cymbalta pooped out after 5 years. It helps me to know that other people have gone through the same thing I am now.
