I'm looking for information about Plaquenil giving a false positive on a drug test for THC? I am at the end of my rope with this and have been dealing with this for many years now and have never been given a distinct answer. PLEASE HELP!
LABODA24; here is the answer from one site and most of them all say the same. AskDocWeb: Neither Prednisone nor Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine) has been reported to cause a false positive drug test for drugs of abuse. However, there are other possible causes so whenever possible a positive urine drug test should be subjected to additional testing to confirm the results. If your original test result was a false positive then the confirmation test will come back negative. I would say do what this doctor is saying they run it a second time and it should come back false. If you take any over the counter or vitamins you need to add those to the list of medications your taking, These anti-inflammatory meds can come back with a false positive, ALEVE OR ADVIL WHICH IS Ibuprophen. good luck. You need to write everything you take and let the doctor running this test do it with everything that goes in your mouth. Sometimes you can have them do a hair test but not all Insurance pays for this you may have to pay but it is much more accurate than a urine or blood test. Good luck Chuck1957
Clearly you did not think to search google as I plugged your question in and got 22,000 hits on "Plaquenil causing false positives for THC". It must be reasonably common. I'm sorry that you were not pro-active in finding an easier way to find answer as the information is all there and has been "for many years".
